There is now an increased market demand for temperature measurement capabilities in both medical and fitness devices. Power consumption is one of the major factors in digital thermometer design. The need for extended battery life, along with high-precision, fast response time and lower cost is critical. Our PIC® microcontrollers (MCUs) with eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology and our wide range of analog components offer extensive flexibility and performance to designers of digital thermometers.

Microchip’s Connected Thermometer Demonstration

Microchip's Connected Thermometer Board demonstrates the implementation of a Bluetooth®-connected digital thermometer using Microchip's PIC16F1519 MCU and RN42 Bluetooth Module. The PIC16F1519 MCU is an eXtreme Low Power (XLP), cost-effective 8-bit microcontroller with an integrated capacitive touch sensing module. Connectivity is demonstrated on this board by the use of Microchip's fully qualified RN42 Bluetooth2.1 + EDR Module. This demo design can also be easily implemented using any of Microchip's Bluetooth Low Energy or Wi-Fi® connectivity modules. http://www.microchip.com/medical

We Have What Digital Thermometer Designers Need

  • A complete family of eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology PIC MCUs with sleep currents as low as 9 nA and the flexibility of integrated 8-bit, 10-bit and 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs)
  • Lower-cost development with our world-class MPLAB® X Integrated Development Environment (IDE), which encapsulates coding, debugging, software simulation, hardware emulation and device programming in a single interface
  • Lower BOM cost and less design complexity enabled by integration of coherent peripherals, like built-in LCD drive, touch-sensing capability and other associated features in most of our popular MCU families
  • Cost-effective, low-risk options to add wireless connectivity using our wireless controllers and modules
