What Are the Benefits of GestIC Technology?

Similar to capacitive touch sensing, GestIC technology uses E-field sensing to detect gestures. Electrodes remain invisible behind the device housing, which allows you to create an aesthetically pleasing user interface design without the need for holes or other cutouts that are typically required for cameras or infrared-based systems. Here are some additional benefits of choosing our controllers with GestIC technology:

  • True single-chip gesture solution for embedded usage
  • From 0 (touch) to 20 cm detection range
  • Very low-power design
  • No detection blind spots
  • No ambient influences (light/sound)
  • Use of thin, low-cost sensing electrodes, for example a standard PCB
  • Highest gesture detection reliability
  • Active noise handling
  • 44–100 kHz carrier frequency; no RF interference

What Are the Benefits of On-Chip Gesture Recognition?

A unique feature of GestIC technology is that it enables gesture recognition to be performed on chip without any additional processing, which allows you to easily create powerful user interfaces and speed up your time to market. The integrated Colibri Gesture Suite uses a Hidden Markov Model (HMM)-based gesture recognition engine that can detect subtle differences in the timing, amplitude and other metrics to provide a high recognition rate of deliberate hand gestures to limit responses to general hand movements and unintended gestures.
